I am Pengyi Cui, from Luoyang, an ancient imperial capital known for peonies. I have witnessed a series of changes in the countryside where I grew up. In my father’s age, there were few students. But in my age, a few children go to schools but few go to universities. Since there was little chance for people to become rich, more and more people, from teenagers to senior villagers, left their homes for finding jobs in order to support their families. I know it’s a transition that each countryside must experience if it wants to develop. Though there is limited education resources, I love my hometown and those unsophisticated and diligent people.
When I was a little child, I knew the importance of studying and thus hoped to be admitted to a top university. Faced with high mountains and winding roads, I never forgot my dream. College entrance examination gives me the opportunity. I am lucky to realize my dream in The Chinese University of Hong Kong, Shenzhen, which is tolerant and keeps up with the times. The new environment is full of challenges: English immersion education, new teaching styles, free learning atmosphere and exciting activities. I still remember my first time to attend a dance party, do presentation, do public speech, practice, and carry out small plan with like-minded friends……I enjoy challenge and make progress in the process.
When I gradually adapt to university life, my goal becomes clear. I want to cherish time, make full use of resources in university, read, pay attention to society, and do something appealing and meaningful. I hope that I can enrich myself and make a difference in the future. So, I will surely keep working hard and cherish every moment.
