I am Wei Wan, a girl from Jiangxi province. But I grew up and took college entrance examination in Shanghai. I am the first batch of undergraduate students of The Chinese University of Hong Kong, Shenzhen. Because of the abundant and sufficient education resources in Shanghai, I didn't think about leaving Shanghai when I was in my high school. I wanted to enter a local college like the majority of my fellow students. Of course, my parents wanted me to stay in Shanghai and have a foreseeable and stable life.
I am a quiet girl and I have been with my parents since I was born. I haven’t lived in a dormitory with other students. But I changed my mind when I was choosing my dream school. I figured that I might never be independent if my college was only half an hour’s journey from my home. And how could I give up a better option simply because of its remote location? So, I didn't hesitate. I gave up the offer from Tongji University and chose The Chinese University of Hong Kong, Shenzhen. My reason was simple. I wanted to experience a different educational philosophy. The Chinese University of Hong Kong, Shenzhen follows the educational philosophy of Hong Kong. And its teaching ideas and all-English teaching and learning environment attracted me. Meanwhile, I wanted to venture into uncharted waters and become more independent. I made this decision by myself without discussing with my parents and teachers. Now when I look backward and I am proud of my decisions.
I want to possess professional knowledge and skills. I want to learn how to cooperate with others. I want to open my heart and broad my horizons. I want to be more confident and make my own contribution to the world. To realize these dreams, I didn’t stop fighting in the past two years and my school supported me a lot. I represented the S.F Foundation as “dream ambassador” to communicate with kids who lived in Yunnan Province and other remote regions. I competed with Japanese and Korean students in the OVAL International Business Contest for Students. I studied in the Copenhagen Business School as an exchange student. I experienced a brand new cultural atmosphere and teaching style. I majored in the Global Supply Chain. I got the chance to meet friends who came from different countries with different cultures and characteristics. We went to class with each other. We did group team work. We visited companies together. I haven’t dreamed about any of these but all these great things have happened in my life!
Life isn’t foreseeable or stable as my parents once expected. When I look back, I notice that life has infinite possibilities and every period can be more fulfilled than you ever expected.
Next: My life becomes more enriched and fulfilled
